Get to Know Us!
Today, we have the pleasure of getting to know our Academic Director, Luis Rosa, a little better. Here is a short interview with him:
Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Luis Rosa Invernón. I was born in Malaga in 1980, I have three sisters, and I have lived most of my life in Benalmadena, a very young and lively town. I still live there today, with my wife and children.
Initially I oriented my studies towards the area of Science and Technology, as I had intended to study Computer Science. Nonetheless, when I was about 18 years old, I discovered the world of Philosophy. I decided to give a twist to the course I had initially set for my university studies. I thus completed my Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Malaga, and later my PhD.
Why Teaching?
Implicit in the very decision to focus my education on Philosophy was the desire to devote myself to teaching. I have never abandoned the world of philosophical research. The study of Philosophy is a gift that one cannot keep to oneself. Moreover, my experience as a student in the years of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate had not been a positive experience, as I did not find motivation in any of the subjects I studied. I wanted to enter the world of education to contribute my bit and give young people the opportunity to enjoy their education process.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to dedicate my life, at least until now, to what I am most passionate about. I was lucky enough to be able to start very young, at the age of 24, and from then until now I have been committed to creating educational contexts in which students grow up happy.
How long have you been with Atalaya?
Well, I have been at Atalaya longer than Atalaya has existed. The Atalaya educational project was a dream of a team of teachers who shared the same vision of what education should be. Even before we could open the doors, the guiding ideas that have driven Atalaya had already been conceived.
The Mata and Mateos families, owners of the school, decided to place their trust in us, and from that moment on, we began working to build a school from scratch. It was an intense but very rewarding task. In September 2014, we opened our doors for the first time, making this my 11th year at the school.
What do you like most about your job?
Working as Headmaster of Atalaya International School is quite a complex task, which I would not be able to carry out if it were not for the team of professionals – and friends – who every day put their talent and energy at the disposal of our students.
Among all the tasks I carry out as Headmaster, the one I enjoy most is that of educational planning: the design of the programmes and the organizational work that we carry out year after year. Nonetheless, although I very much enjoy this typical part of a Headmaster’s activity, what I still really enjoy the most about my work on a weekly basis is teaching my Philosophy students in the Baccalaureate stage of their education.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I spend most of my time with my family. I have four children, and in the evenings and on weekends we are busy taking them to their extracurricular activities. When we have time, we like to make outdoor plans surrounded by nature, like hiking in the mountains or along rivers. I also enjoy sports, especially football, and take every opportunity to get together with friends to play.
In addition, I always find time for my passion for philosophy and, whenever I can, I read philosophy books, or listen to podcasts related to history, science, pedagogy or psychology.
