II Colegio Atalaya Interschool Chess Tournament
Last Wednesday, May 8th, we held our II Colegio Atalaya Interschool Chess Tournament in our Assembly Hall, in cooperation with the Metro Chess Club of Marbella. We were pleased to welcome 5 others schools to participate in the tournament: IES Ramón y Cajal in Fuengirola, IES Sierra Blanca, Aloha College, CEIP José Banús, CEIP Los Olivos
A total of 134 Primary and Secondary students participated in the tournament and, although only six got trophies or medals, we are sure that all enjoyed the experience and managed to learn more about this sport.
This year we introduced school team trophies, awarded according to the points earned by their 5 best players.
At the end of 6 intense rounds, the results were as follow:
Primary
- 1st place: Jorge Moreno Hidalgo (CEIP Los Olivos)
- 2nd place: Curro Leyton Herrera (Colegio Atalaya)
- 3rd place: Rodrigo González Bertot (Colegio Atalaya)
- 4th place: Jaime Rivero Umbría (Aloha College)
- 5th place: Matthias Ernesto Badilla Cedeño (Colegio Atalaya)
Secondary
- 1er place: Antonio Machuca Lorenzo (Colegio Atalaya)
- 2nd place: Joaquín Chacón Bathan (Aloha College)
- 3rd place: Martin Brun (Aloha College)
- 4th place: Frank Alejandro González Bertot (Colegio Atalaya)
- 5th place: Daniel Newman Sudarma Suwarjo (IES Santiago Ramón y Cajal)

La clasificación por Colegios, sumando los puntos de los 5 primeros clasificados de cada uno, queda como sigue:
- 1st place: Colegio Atalaya, with 26 points
- 2nd place: Aloha College, with 25 points
- 3rd place: IES Santiago Ramón y Cajal, with 23 points
- 4th place: CEIP Los Olivos, with 21 points
- 5th place: CEIP José Banús, with 19.5 points
- 6th place: IES Sierra Blanca, with 18 points
We would like to finish by mentioning the good competitive atmosphere that existed throughout the competition and by thanking everyone who participated for their sportsmanship. We encourage them to keep practising for next year’s tournament.
