Global Empowering Journey
The Global Empowering Journey is an innovative educational project implemented into the curriculum beginning in the 1st year of Secondary Education and which students will carry out through their Secondary Education studies. One of the main objectives in the creation of the Global Empowering Journey (GEJ) was to originate an individual project which would develop distinct facets of learning over four years’ time. The GEJ strives to empower learning through this global journey in which each student will travel onwards while broadening and expanding their knowledge and skills basing their research on an area of study of their choice.
At the start of the first year of Secondary, students will embark upon the journey by first searching for and establishing the line of investigation to carry out during their expedition, which must be based upon one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, therefore an issue based on a global concern. Students will sharpen their research, reading and critical thinking skills through the process of investigating their topic of choice. They will also come to understand that collaboration is a key focus as well, as students will need to explore and contact outside NGO organizations which work towards particular public or welfare goals. Communication skills are also enhanced and sharpened as they are intertwined with the activities which students will undertake as they journey forward in the investigation process. This includes not only strengthening oral speaking skills, but also encompasses refining writing skills as each student will be required to share their individual Global Empowering Journey project with others throughout the four years, showcasing their work in both oral presentations and written formats.
Their entire Journey will be tracked with a Passport, which is stamped as they move through each of the particular phases and upon completion of the required set of activities for each stage of the GEJ. After journeying through these four years of investigation, writing, research, and reflection, it is our hope that students will have gained invaluable tools to face the future in their last two years of Baccalaureate Studies.
